USS Wisconsin Radio Club "Restore BB-64"
  • wd4nzxwd4nzx January 15
As reported at today's meeting, the USS Wisconsin Radio Club is about to embark on a new journey as a volunteer organization to help with the restoration of the Battleship.  The program assigns specific areas of the ship to different volunteer groups who will be responsible for the cleanup and maintenance of the space.  This has given us an opening, one which gives us an assigned area of the ship that we can use for our radio events for just a few hours of invested time renovating the space.

The chosen space is 2 levels above the main deck and is labeled "Flag Admin" and "Flag Plot".  That's right, two rooms on the "Flag Bridge" where we can setup permanent stations and displays.  It is on the guided tour route but not the self guided tour route.  We will still get to explain the uses to the public but with fewer interruptions while operating our special events.

There will be room for our permanent installations as well as for some storage of additional equipment.  Initially we plan to setup 2 HF stations using the 35 foot verticals to the rear of the ship.  We also expect to install a UHF/VHF station for occasional and emergency use.

We are excited about the prospects, what are your thoughts and comments ?

Good news everyone!  Today we got our MOU (Memorandum of Understanding) back from Nauticus, all signed.  We now have 2 spaces on the Wisconsin, FLAG PLOT and FLAG ADMIN.  Both are on the FLAG level and are adjacent.  This is the same level that supports the 35 foot verticals that we wanted access to.  With some luck we will be ready in the new space for our March 10-11 event.!

Thanks to the committee, Ed Wiliams, KN4KL and Butch Burke, KE4AZL, and Ron, W8RJL!

Howdy, Stranger!
